Job Responsibilities
The holder of the PhD position will primarily focus on their own education at the doctoral level.
Other duties at the department related to student education, participation in teaching teams, and administrative work may be included within the framework of the position (maximum 20 percent of the position). For employment as a PhD candidate, the holder must be admitted or will be admitted to doctoral studies. Regulations for PhD candidates and admission to doctoral education can be found in Chapter 5, Sections 1-7 and Chapter 7, Sections 34-41 of the Higher Education Ordinance, as well as in the general study plan for doctoral education at the Faculty of Law in Uppsala.

- have obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree, a Master of Laws degree, or completed the law program in Sweden, or

The overarching goals for doctoral education are that the newly graduated doctor should have good conditions for a successful professional life within or outside academia. The appointment will be based on an assessment of the applicants' ability to benefit from doctoral education. In the assessment, the project description and the written legal scientific material are the most important. This includes written material, published or unpublished. The assessment primarily focuses on analytical ability, the ability to structure and process, independence, and the novelty value of the proposed research project. In addition to the written material, other merits may be considered in the assessment of the ability to benefit from doctoral education, such as grades from courses and positions held, completed courses, etc. In evaluating the applicant's ability to benefit from the education, consideration may also be given to their collaborative ability in various forms, for example, in teaching teams. Furthermore, the department's need for renewal within all subjects at the doctoral level may be taken into account.

Decisions on admission to doctoral education are made by the Faculty of Law's research committee after preparation by a specially appointed assessment committee. As part of the admission process, a limited number of interviews may be conducted.
The head of the department makes decisions on employment. A person may be employed as a PhD candidate for a maximum of eight years, but not longer than corresponds to full-time doctoral education for four years. An extension is granted for teaching within the framework of the position.
